Family Literacy Program (FLIT)

What is FLIT?

Family Literacy classes are for students who need to learn to speak, read, or write English or obtain their high school equivalency diploma and need childcare to pursue their educational and career goals.

Why should I Choose FLIT?

FLIT classes help students learn English or improve English skills, or study for their high school equivalency. Their children can attend quality childcare at the same time and all classes for parents and children are free! Students may also participate in job training classes, learn workforce preparation skills, or study for U.S. Citizenship.

Who is eligible?

Adults who are 16 and older are eligible for classes. Minor students (16 and 17 years of age) will need to complete a minor permission form. Children who are between 1 and 4 years old are eligible to participate.

When and where are classes offered?

Classes are available at Lenoir Housing Authority in Lenoir.

How do I enroll?

All FLIT adult students must attend a free assessment session before enrolling in a class. Students will submit an enrollment packet and take a reading and math assessment prior to meeting with an advisor to enroll. Parents will meet with childcare staff to enroll children.
